This semester, I have registered for Information and Communication Technology in Science, SSI3013 which is one of the courses that I need to take in order to fulfill my studies. This course is conducted by Associate Professor Dr Sopia Md Yassin who really has lots of knowledge and experience to share with us. Dr Sopia conducts the lecture with the help of Cik Suziati that will conduct the lab session where we will do the entire practical that we have learnt during the lecture session. For me, this course is very interesting as I never take any course that teaches me to use technology that is very useful in daily life and teaching. On this class, we have learnt about new software and stuff like Interactive White Board (IWB), E-portfolio, data logging and simulation and modeling.
Our first lesson is about the Interactive White Board (IWB). IWB is a large interactive display that connects the computer and the projector. The projector projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface and the best part is that it is touch screen. We can use the IWB for many interactive activities and it will be so much fun. We also need to use IWB in each presentation throughout the semester. Although IWB is quite hard to handle when first introduce, it is much easier after we familiarize with it. I also think that the usage of IWB in school is a very good idea because the interactive features can help teacher to get students attention in class.
In this course, we also learnt about e-portfolio and everyone must have their very own e-portfolio. Our E-portfolio is made through the blogspot because it is much easier rather than doing in wordpress or other blogger site. On this e-portfolio, I can upload and share all of my assignments, my thoughts and everything with others. E-portfolio is also very useful for me and other future teachers as well.
Besides that, we also learnt about data logger. As a future Science teacher, I think data logger is very useful as it will made experiments easier with all of the sensors that it has. Data taken is more accurate than the conventional way of doing experiment, and the best part is that all of the data taken is stored in the logger device and can be transferred to computers and the data is translated into the form of graph. Well, surely it will save lots of time and making everything much easier.
The last one is simulation and modeling. Simulation and modeling is very useful in helping students understand the process that occurs in science. Well, as everyone said simulation and modeling made the invisible visible. We can also change the variable in modeling and asking students prediction. This will help students to think critically and creatively. Simulation helps in simulate experiment which cannot be done in laboratory which are too lengthy or dangerous. So, students will have the advantages on seeing this experiment although it cannot be done in real.
